A safety sign is a sign that provides a specific message to people who may be exposed to a hazard in the workplace.

- warn people of hazards;
- communicate important instructions;
- reinforce safety messages; and
- provide instructions for emergency situations, e.g. emergency exit routes.
Important: You have an obligation under health and safety legislation to use signs where practicable to highlight a serious hazard or risk in your workplace.
