Last updated February 2021

This chapter examines the use of pre-employment assessments to determine whether job candidates are able to perform the role safely.

What is a pre-employment assessment?

Definition: Pre-Employment Assessment

A pre-employment assessment is a process that employers can use to assess the suitability of job candidates.

There are two types of pre-employment assessments you can use to ensure that job candidates are able to safely undertake the role for which they are applying:

  • pre-employment medical assessments; and
  • pre-employment questionnaires.
Tip: There are many other types of pre-employment assessments you may use during the recruitment process to assess the suitability of job candidates, such as background and identification checks.
