Reminder of Australia’s zero tolerance for asbestos

The Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency has issued a safety alert reminding importers of Australia’s zero tolerance for asbestos.

The safety alert was issued following an incident in March 2021, when the Australian Border Force found chrysotile asbestos in two gaskets in a consignment of after-market parts and components imported from China.

SafeWork SA reminds importers that products with any level of asbestos are prohibited for import into or use in Australia. It is the responsibility of importers to ensure that imported goods do not contain asbestos.
