Who provides first aid kits in company vehicles?

Q: In the Health & Safety Handbook chapter on Vehicle Safety it says that first aid kits are to be supplied in all fleet vehicles. Our fleet vehicles are managed by our corporate department but allocated to the various divisions, business units, etc.

I've enquired with the corporate team on whether they can supply first aid kits in all our fleet vehicles, but they state that this is a business unit responsibility. Can you please clarify this issue and definitively say where this responsibility lies?

A: The law requires that the department, as the person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), must ensure that there are first aid kits in the fleet cars. It is then an internal matter as to which internal department (corporate or business division) ensures that the supply occurs, so long as they are supplied.

Please note: The answer is correct at the time of publishing. Be aware that laws may change over time. Refer to First aid and Vehicle safety for current advice.
