Home - What are our testing and tagging requirements?
September 03, 2019 on chapter Electrical safety

Could you please direct me to the act or regulation that states that testing and tagging must be carried out in the workplace? Our business is in New South Wales.

In New South Wales, Part 4.7 of the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2017 (regulations) deals with electrical safety in workplaces. Relevantly, regulation 150 deals with inspecting and testing of electrical equipment.

In NSW, there is an approved code of practice that deals with managing electrical safety risks. The code of practice does not replace the requirements under the work health and safety legislation and is not mandatory. However, in any prosecution for breaches of the legislation or regulations, the Court may have regard to an approved code of practice as evidence of what is known about a particular risk, risk assessment or risk control, and in determining what is reasonably practicable in the circumstances to which the code relates.

You may also find the Safe Work Australia Model Code of Practice, Managing Electrical Risks in the Workplace, useful for further guidance.
