Home - Is testing and tagging still required when a residual current device (RCD) is installed?
May 06, 2014 on chapter Electrical safety

Is testing and tagging still required when a residual current device (RCD) is installed? Our electrician has advised us that it is not needed in the office if there is an RCD installed.

Testing and tagging will still be necessary. Although RCDs significantly reduce the risk of electric shocks, they do not protect against all types of electrical faults.

Further, if there are RCDs installed, reasonable steps must be taken to ensure that the RCDs themselves are tested regularly by a competent person to ensure they are working effectively.

For more information, you can take a look at the Code of Practice published by Safe Work Australia – Managing Electrical Risks in the Workplace.
