One of our health and safety committee members has refused to undergo training. Should they be allowed to remain on the committee?
Unlike health and safety representatives (HSR), there is no statutory requirement for health and safety committee (HSC) members to undergo training. However, the company can adopt a policy that requires all HSC members to undergo training. To support this policy, you can include the legislative point of view by stating that the HSC members can only competently perform its duties and functions of ensuring the workers’ health and safety at work with effective training.
