Our business has some clients who use wheelchairs, so we are currently sourcing a portable wheelchair ramp. Are there any standards or regulations we should be aware of before we purchase one?
There is an Australian Standard that provides guidance on requirements for wheelchair access: Australian Standard for Design for Access and Mobility (AS 1428.1-2009).
As the Australian Standards are a paid service, we recommend you call the organisation (Standards Australia – 1800 035 822) and discuss your specific requirements to determine the applicable Australian Standard for purchase. In addition, you can ask for a certificate of compliance with the relevant standard from the manufacturer of the portable ramp prior to purchase.
