Are asthma inhalers a requirement for first aid kits?

Q: Following ‘Thunderstorm asthma’ in Victoria last year, we received a request from one of our first-aiders to include asthma inhalers (and spacers) in their first aid kits. Is this a new requirement for first aid kits?

A: There is no new requirement to have asthma inhalers and spacers in workplace first aid kits. The contents of first aid kits are not specified in the health and safety legislation and regulations for each State and Territory. The contents of your first aid kit should be unique to the risks to health and safety in your workplace.
