New site created new risks for manufacturer

The Case

A metal manufacturing company moved its electrical wholesale operations to a new site. When shelving that was transported to the new site was erected, it was not anchored according to the Australian Standards. The shelving was used to store 10 drums containing electric cables, with a combined weight of several hundreds of kilograms.

In January 2022, a worker used an electric cable winding machine to retrieve cable from one of the drums. The pull of the cable caused the shelving to fall forward. It struck the worker on the head, causing significant injuries.'
