Alert issued after quad bike death

WHS Queensland has issued an incident alert after a farm worker died when losing control of a quad bike. The regulator said it appears he attempted to avoid a kangaroo.

The incident is still being investigated.

To mitigate quad bike safety risks, WHS Queensland reminds operators to follow the four-step risk management process below:

  • Identify hazards – find out what could cause harm.
  • Assess risks – understand the nature of the harm that could be caused by the hazard, how serious it could be, and the likelihood of it happening.
  • Control risks – implement the most effective control measures reasonably practicable in the circumstances.
  • Review control measures – to ensure they are working as planned.
